I do love reading your thoughts and laughing at the common experiences.

We're not too far from you on the foothills of the Remutaka Hills and even use the same sheep shearer.

Can I add to the list of farming woes the never-ending supply chain problems? We have tractor, excavator and chainsaw all awaiting parts.... and staff shortages with mechanics etc

Hi Neighbour!

Ha ha, supply chain. Oh my god, I just call it the Valley Effect, it's like Island Time. Getting a contractor to turn up when a) you need them and b) they say they will; is a dark art. Tradies and contractors tend to turn up randomly. It's all very Lord of the Rings "A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to."

One of the tricks we have employed is that we give the contractor or tradie a box of beer after the job is done. They do remember that bribery...

I had one contractor who was doing some work for us in the bottom paddock. The neighbour called him over to see if he could do a job for him. Next day he turns up at the neighbours and starts working on their job while mine is still half finished. I'm shouting at him over the fence "Are you cheating on me Brent!!?"

Nice to hear from you!
